Whit Johnson is co-anchor of “Good Morning America” Saturday and
Sunday and anchor of the Saturday edition of “World News Tonight,”
based in New York. He is also an ABC News correspondent, and his
reports can be seen across multiple ABC News broadcasts, including
“Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight with David Muir,”
“GMA3,” “20/20,” “Nightline” and ABC News Live.

Since joining ABC News, Johnson has covered a wide variety of major
breaking news stories in the field, from politics to severe weather
disasters to mass shootings. He’s played a key role during election
coverage, including reporting from Trump headquarters in Florida on
election night 2024. Johnson covered the 2025 New Year’s Day deadly
terror attack in New Orleans and its subsequent investigation. Johnson
also provided comprehensive coverage during the devastating Maui
wildfires in August of 2023, which took the lives of more than 100
people. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as one of the lead
correspondents for ABC News, providing viewers with vital information
during some of the most unprecedented times in modern history.

In his role as an anchor, Johnson has guided numerous breaking news
stories and special reports from the desk, including anchoring for
more than seven hours straight during the assassination attempt of
then-former President Donald Trump in July 2024 at a rally in Butler,
Pennsylvania. Other special reports include the Supreme Court decision
to overturn Roe versus Wade in June 2022, the historic Iranian missile
attack on Israel in April 2024, and the deadly Titan submersible
implosion in June 2023 that was exploring the ruins of the Titanic.

Johnson was previously a morning anchor for “Today in LA” on
KNBC-TV, which won the Golden Mike Award for Best Daytime News
Broadcast in 2017. During his time in Los Angeles, Johnson also won
two Emmys® for investigative reporting and his coverage of the 2016
Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Before joining KNBC, Johnson was a Washington-based CBS News
correspondent and fill-in anchor reporting on national news, the White
House and Capitol Hill. During his time at the network, he covered
then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on several stops across the
Middle East, and he interviewed her minutes after news broke that
Muammar Gaddafi had been killed.

Johnson also worked as an anchor and reporter for stations in Salt
Lake City, Utah, and Yakima, Washington.

Johnson was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and is a
graduate of San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts in
television and radio broadcasting.
